Elections

Learn about upcoming elections, voting procedures, and leadership roles in the HSR community.

How Elections Work

HSR operates on a democratic system. Elections are held every 2 months. Each election cycle, players vote on two things:

  • The President — The winner is decided based on whoever receives the most votes. If there is a tie, the Executive Council breaks it.
  • Their Ambassadors — Each school (given that it has enough players) has one or more ambassadors. Players vote for candidates from their own school.

Next Election

The next election is scheduled for February 2nd, 2026. Candidate registration opens on January 23rd.

Presidential Election

The President of HSR gains special voting permissions and power. They have 3 votes in executive decisions, and coordinate events and decisions with Developers, Admins, Ambassadors, and the owner.

Responsibilities

The President handles disputes between players, may help interpret server rules, ensures fair enforcement of community guidelines, and coordinates major decisions. A clean disciplinary record is essential. They may host events and help disperse government money (with Executive Council approval). Growing the server and community is a key responsibility.

Compensation

The President receives a weekly wage of 2 pix for their service to the community.

Additional Duties

Presidents manage community announcements, oversee inter-school communications, and represent HSR in official matters. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential. They are encouraged to host server-wide events.

Presidential Candidate Requirements

To run for President, candidates must:

  • Be an active student at a participating high school (alums cannot run)
  • Have been a server member for at least 30 days
  • Maintain good standing with no recent disciplinary actions (no bans or mutes in the last 30 days)
  • Submit a campaign platform: 1 goal and 2 policies (1-2 sentences each)
  • Receive endorsement from at least 1 current community member (a pledged supporter) who is not a candidate
  • Be an active Discord member with at least 12 hours of server playtime

⚠️ Important

Campaign violations or misconduct during the election period may result in disqualification and temporary suspension from future elections.

Ambassador Election

Each school (given that it has enough players) has ambassadors elected by their fellow students. Schools that join between elections will have initial ambassadors whether or not they qualify in terms of number of players.

How Ambassador Voting Works

Players vote for ambassador candidates from their own school only. The voting interface displays player heads of all running candidates.

  • Click on a player head to select them (turns green)
  • Click again to deselect (turns red)
  • You may select up to the Critical Number of candidates (see below)
  • You do not have to use all your votes
  • Confirm your choices using the button at the bottom of the GUI

The top candidates with the most votes win ambassador positions for their school.

Voting Rules

  • Pledged supporters cannot vote for ambassadors (they must vote for their presidential candidate)
  • Ambassadors can vote for themselves

Ambassador Candidate Requirements

To run for Ambassador, candidates must:

  • Be a member of the school they wish to represent
  • Submit a statement explaining why players should vote for them

If your school does not yet qualify for ambassadors, you will see a message: "Your school does not yet qualify for ambassadors. You need to recruit more people from your school!"

The Critical Number

The Critical Number determines how many ambassadors each school gets, and how many candidates each player can vote for. It is calculated per school each election cycle.

Calculation

Each election cycle (every 2 months), all players who have joined are counted:

  • Active players (activity within the last month) = 1 point
  • Inactive players (no activity for >1 month) = 0.25 points

All points are added up and divided by the Rep Number (currently 4). Decimals are truncated (e.g., 2.75 becomes 2).

Example

A school has 10 active players (10 points) and 8 inactive players (2 points). Total = 12 points. Divided by 4 = 3 ambassadors.

Limits

  • Minimum: 0 ambassadors (school doesn't qualify)
  • Maximum: 5 ambassadors per school

The Rep Number (currently 4) and inactive worth (currently 0.25) are configurable and subject to change.

Voting Commands

All registered players can participate in elections through the in-game voting system.

Commands

/vote # Opens the voting GUI
/vote ambassador # Vote for ambassadors (from your school)

The voting GUI displays all candidates with their statements. For ambassadors, you'll see player heads that you can click to select. A confirmation button appears at the bottom right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the President fire Ambassadors?

With approval from the Executive Council, the President can demote Ambassadors.

What are Pledged Supporters?

Pledged Supporters are members who volunteer to endorse a specific presidential candidate. They can be more directly involved with the candidate's campaign. Pledged supporters must vote for their respective candidate and cannot vote in ambassador elections.

How are ties resolved?

For presidential ties, a runoff election is held within one week. If the tie persists, an Executive Vote is held to break it. For ambassador ties, the Executive Council decides.

What if my school doesn't have enough players?

Your school needs enough players to generate at least 1 ambassador slot via the Critical Number calculation. Recruit more players from your school to gain representation!

Can I vote for myself as an ambassador?

Yes, ambassadors and ambassador candidates can vote for themselves.
